A brief history of Spanish and the study of its grammar: From Nebrija’s anchoring of the language (Spain, 1492) to the creation of Real Academia Española (Spain, 1713), to Bello’s PanAmerican voice (Venezuela and Chile, 1847) to today’s collaborative Nueva Gramática de la Lengua Española, which has welcome contributions from accross the Spanish-speaking world, including the US. This summary view of the transformations of Spanish is intended as a contextual anchor for our posts, in the hopes that they will contribute to clear communication and elegant writing.
La gramática y su estudio
La palabra “gramática” se refiere tanto a las normas que rigen la producción y comprensión del idioma, como a su estudio. Entendida como conjunto de reglas y principios que gobiernan el uso de una lengua concreta, ¡la gramática es tan antigua como la más antigua de las lenguas!
